Zachary Mwangi, Professionally known as Proud Refuge is a mainstream inspiration recording artist and singer-songwriter from Nairobi, Kenya. He embarked on his music career in 2011 while still in High School. In 2012, he signed his first single deal with Rufftone under Lamp stand Records before relocating to the United States for university studies.

Like many young musicians, 23 year old Proud Refuge moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a successful recording artist. So far, so familiar, but unlike many artists attracted to the bright lights of the big city, Proud’s definition of success is not a conventional one. He believes strongly that you don’t need to and shouldn’t change who you are to fit in with a preconceived notion of what the market wants or how you’re supposed to behave.

For Proud, success comes from staying true to himself and his beliefs and helping other artists who have set out on a similar path. Inspired by afro-beat music and gospel hip-hop. His mission is to bring a positive alternative to the music consumed everyday by this generation and to show others through his life that it is possible to achieve your dreams and make a global impact without having to compromise what you stand for.
